Streets & Drainage
The Streets and Drainage Division is committed to performing the functions of planning, implementation, development and management of the City’s infrastructure system of streets to the highest safety and cost-effective standards possible. This division provides maintenance repair and reconstruction activities for City streets. The Streets and Drainage Division is composed of approximately 27 employees with a budget of $4 million.

Streets Division
The Streets Division is responsible for all maintenance and repair of city streets. The division also conducts the annual street minor reconstruction program. This division is responsible for:
- Repairing potholes
- Removing objects in street

Traffic Division
The Traffic Division is responsible for all maintenance and repair of city street signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, and school zone flashing lights. This division is responsible for:
- Maintaining and conducting routine maintenance on traffic signals
- Striping pavement
- Repairing damaged or missing traffic signs
Drainage Division
Drainage Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance and repair of open drainage channels, storm drains, drainage outlets, and storm water Interceptors. This division is responsible for:
- Repairing drainage problems
- Performing street cleaning / street sweeping
- Trimming and removing trees / branches from the City right of way
Traffic Signals and School Zones
Installation & Maintenance
The Streets and Drainage Division is responsible for the installation and maintenance of traffic signals and school zone lights within the city limits of New Braunfels.
To report a malfunctioning traffic signal, school zone flashing light, or other similar issue, please call the Streets and Drainage Division at (830) 221-4030, or use the Report an Issue tool.
Overgrown Vegetation
If you are concerned about a location having the potential for overgrown vegetation please call Streets and Drainage Department at (830) 221-4030 between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday – Friday or use our Report an Issue tool. Please have the street address available when you call.
Road / Right of Way Excavation Permits
All entities desiring to excavate within city right of way must first complete, submit and obtain an approved Road / Right of Way Excavation Permit, in addition to any other permits required.
Emergency Repairs
In the event that an excavation must be made in response to emergency repairs (such as water main breaks and gas leaks), telephone notice must be given.

The completed Road/Right-of-Way Excavation Application must be submitted by the following business day.
Processing Fees for Credit/Debit Transactions - Effective May 1, 2021
Effective May 1, 2021 all credit/debit card transactions will incur a 2.75% processing fee paid directly to the merchant provider. To avoid incurring this fee, we encourage you to utilize one of our other payment options which includes cash, check or e-check.
