Drowning Investigation on Guadalupe River

New Braunfels Police Department Posted on May 15, 2022

On May 14, 2022, at approximately 6:05pm, New Braunfels Police and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the banks of the Guadalupe River in the 1400 block of Gruene Road for a report of a possible drowning.

First responders arrived to find that a 28-year old male from Mexico had been swimming in the river in the area of the Gruene River Bridge when he went under the water and did not initially resurface. Paramedics were able to locate the male and he was pulled from the water after being under for approximately 20 minutes. All life saving measures were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Comal County Justice of the Peace for Pct. 1 Tom Clark has ordered an autopsy, but the drowning appears to be accidental and foul play is not suspected. The identity of the man is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
