The City of New Braunfels is alerting residents that FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Association, will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) this Wednesday, October 4th, 2023, at approximately 1:20pm.
FEMA’s test is in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and will include all electronic forms of communication including cell phones, radio broadcasts, and television broadcasts.
The messaging over radio and television will state: “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”
Cell phones will receive the warning as a tone, a vibration, and as a text message that states: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
Again, the national test of the Emergency Alert System is set for this Wednesday, October 4th, at approximately 1:20pm. For more information about the nationwide EAS test, please visit the FEMA website.
