Purpose
This bulletin informs Building Safety Division customers that approved drawings and documents are required on construction sites during inspection for residential and commercial projects.
Section 107.3.1 of the 2021 International Building Code and Section R106.3.1 of the 2021 International Residential Code:
When the building official issues a permit, the construction documents shall be approved, in writing or by stamp, as “Reviewed for Code Compliance.” One set of construction documents so reviewed shall be retained by the building official. The other set shall be returned to the applicant, shall be kept at the site of work and shall be open to inspection by the building official or a duly authorized representative.
To provide better customer service and minimize inspection delay that sometimes arises due to poor internet connection on job sites, printed copies of approved drawings and documents with the Building Safety approval stamp need to be available to the inspector during an inspection.
Please place approved construction drawings and documents in an easily accessible location in the structure's entrance or the building's first room/space. For example, in residential dwellings, at the foyer, garage, sub-panel in the garage, water heater platform, etc.
If you have any questions, please call 830-221-4041, and select Option 1.
Thank you.
