Christmas Tree Drop Off and Mulch Pick Up at the City Recycling Center

Media Releases Posted on December 18, 2023

The City of New Braunfels Solid Waste and Recycling Division is once again offering free Christmas tree drop-off and mulch pick-up for New Braunfels residents at the City Recycling Center, located at 488 South Castell Avenue (with the entrance on Butcher Street).

From Wednesday, December 27th through Saturday, January 13th, residents can drop off their natural Christmas trees so they can be made into mulch.  Trees will be accepted at the Recycling Center during normal operating hours, which are from 8am to 12pm and 12:30pm to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday (and closed on Sundays, Mondays, and City holidays). Artificial trees, flocked trees (with fake snow), painted trees, and any decorations like lights, ornaments, garland, tinsel, and stands will not be accepted.  Please remove all decorations prior to bringing a tree to the Recycling Center.

The trees that are dropped off will then be turned into mulch, which will be available for pick-up (while supplies last) during normal operating hours from Saturday, Jan. 2nd through Saturday, Jan. 13th.  Christmas tree mulch is for New Braunfels residents only and is a self-load service, so residents will need to bring their own shovels and containers.

Natural Christmas trees are also eligible for residential pick-up at the curb on Green Waste collection days.  Trees taller than 8-feet must be cut in half, and all trees must be free of decorations, paint, lights, flocking, etc.

For details on which items are accepted year-round at the City Recycling Center, visit www.newbraunfels.gov/recycle or call the Solid Waste and Recycling Division at (830) 221-4040.
