On July 6, 2024, at approximately 5pm, the New Braunfels Police Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Pumpkin Ridge for a welfare concern about a female who had made threats to harm herself and her boyfriend. Neither individual had contact with family for several days. Officers made entry into the home and discovered a male and female deceased in a bedroom of the home, each suffering fatal gunshot wounds.
NBPD Detectives are investigating the incident as a Homicide/Suicide, and the initial investigation indicates that the female, identified as 32-year old Abigail Garza of Robbstown shot 45-year old Matthew Ryan Burrer of New Braunfels before turning the gun on herself. Next of kin for both parties have been notified.
This is the first homicide in New Braunfels in 2024 and this incident remains under investigation by the NBPD Criminal Investigations Division.
