Officer Involved Shooting

New Braunfels Police Department Posted on September 24, 2024

On September 22nd, at approximately 8pm, officers with the City of New Braunfels Police Department were called to the 1200 block of Roaring Falls for a report of a disturbance in progress. Officers arrived to find a male subject who initially refused to exit the residence.

While trying to make contact with the suspect, officers observed him aiming a shotgun at them through a window. One officer fired his service weapon through the window in the direction of the suspect. A short time later the male exited the residence through the front door while holding a knife. Officers were able to subdue the man and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect, a 63-year old male from New Braunfels, was transported by EMS to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels for treatment of superficial, non-life threatening injuries. It is currently unclear if the suspect’s injuries were self-inflicted or the result of the gunshot. As of this release, the suspect currently remains at the hospital in stable condition. Formal charges against the suspect are pending his release from the hospital.

This incident remains under investigation as an officer involved shooting. As part of standard operating procedure, the officer involved in the incident (a Patrol Sergeant with 17 years at NBPD) has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Texas Rangers.
