City of New Braunfels Launches National Search for Chief of Police

Media Releases Posted on October 17, 2024

The City of New Braunfels has launched a nationwide search for the next Chief of Police ahead of the departure of current Chief Keith Lane at the end of October. In August, Chief Lane announced he would resign his position effective October 31st, 2024. New Braunfels City Manager Robert Camareno has since selected Assistant Chief of Police David Blevins to serve as the interim Chief of Police until a new permanent chief is hired. That selection will go before New Braunfels City Council for confirmation at their meeting on October 28th, 2024.

The position has officially been posted and applications will be accepted through 5pm on November 17th, 2024. The selection process to select a new Chief of Police began with a series of internal focus groups and surveys of Police Department staff to help create a profile of the ideal candidate.

“The primary goal of the focus groups is to gather valuable insights from our team members regarding the qualities and characteristics they believe are essential for the next Chief of Police,” said City of New Braunfels Human Resources Director Becca Miears. “We aim to ensure that the recruitment process reflects the needs and values of the Police Department while aligning with the broader objectives of the New Braunfels community.”

Details about the Chief of Police position, including duties, requirements, salary, and benefits are available on the City of New Braunfels website, www.newbraunfels.gov/chiefofpolice.
