Removal of New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) Plat Signature Requirement

Planning Department - Customer Bulletins Posted on February 11, 2025

Purpose

To streamline the recordation of subdivision plats and increase the efficiency of the development review process.

Background

On February 10, 2025, City Council approved the removal of the requirement to include a New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) signature on all applicable subdivision plats (Chapter 118 Section 30 of the City’s Code of Ordinances). This requirement was originally implemented to ensure that NBU reviewed and approved all utility-related aspects of plats within their service territory before recordation. While well-intentioned when originally implemented, the requirement results in additional platting process time without added value, as utility reviews are now completed during earlier stages of the development process to ensure all utility-related concerns are addressed.

This improvement will serve to streamline the plat approval and recordation process while maintaining comprehensive utility reviews and make the process consistent with other utility providers in the New Braunfels area, and more consistent with other municipalities.

Summary

NBU signature is no longer required as part of the plat recordation process after the plat has been approved.

For any questions related to the plat submittal and recordation process please feel free to contact Planning & Development Services Department, Planning Division staff at planning@newbraunfels.gov or (830) 221-4041 (ext. 2) for assistance.
