Insurance Benefits
Medical, Dental & Vision
Medical, dental and vision benefits are provided to full-time employees by the City at a minimal group rate. Employees may elect coverage for his or her dependents (i.e. child(ren) only, spouse only or family).
Life
Two life insurance plans are provided to employees by the City, at no cost to the employee: one year's salary through the Texas Municipal Retirement System for full-time and most part-time employees, and a $10,000 Life and AD&D policy through the group health plan provider for full-time employees. Optional additional coverage is available to full-time employees for themselves, spouse, and/or children at a group rate with deductions from each paycheck.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
This optional benefit is available to full-time employees. Employees can choose pre-tax contributions from each paycheck for out-of-pocket medical expenses and/or reimbursement for dependent care. Dependent care covers the cost of care for dependent children under the age 13 who qualify as tax dependents and anyone claimed as a tax dependent because of physical or mental inability to care for himself/herself.
Supplemental Insurance
This optional benefit is available to full-time employees. Available policies include: short term disability income, off-the-job accident, critical illness, life, and hospital plan.
Retirement
Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS)
The City provides membership to all full-time and most part-time employees for the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Employee contributes 7% of gross income (pre-tax); the City matches the contribution at a rate of 2:1. The employee becomes vested with the City of New Braunfels after five years of service.
Employees become eligible for retirement at 20 years of service or five years of service and age 60. Employees with public service at another entity may apply for service credit toward total years of service. Upon retirement, TMRS provides monthly income for retirees that will include the City's contribution match.
Deferred Compensation
Details:
This optional benefit is available to full-time and part-time employees through MissionSquare Retirement. This voluntary 457-deferred compensation plan allows for employees to have a selection of investment opportunities, with the contributions taken on a pre-tax or after-tax basis from each paycheck.
Leave Benefits
Vacation leave
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to accrue paid vacation leave. Vacation leave is available to employees after six months from the date of hire.
Sick leave
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to accrue paid sick leave and may use it upon hire.
City Holidays
New Braunfels City Council designates holidays for City employees. Twelve days per calendar year are observed as paid holidays for full-time employees.
Paid Parental Leave
Full-time team members are eligible for 80 hours of Paid Parental Leave annually after six months from the date of hire.

Tuition Reimbursement
Details:
The City encourages and supports its employees in pursuing continuing education opportunities in keeping with the needs of the City of New Braunfels and its citizens. This program is available to employees who wish to voluntarily pursue educational advancement or training outside the course of their employment with the City.
Classes must be offered by an accredited school or university or a recognized technical training school. Reimbursement rates are based on the employee's successful completion of the course work and their level of academic success, up to 100% of reimbursement of tuition and fees, as further defined in the employee handbook.
Other Benefits
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The City's EAP is designed to confidentially help employees deal with life's stresses and the variety of personal problems that can develop from them. All employees and their household members are eligible for this benefit that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round.
Longevity
For every year of service completed, full-time employees receive additional pay each pay period. Additionally, annually service pins are awarded for years of service in 5 year increments (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30).
New Braunfels Public Library Card
All City employees receive a free New Braunfels Public Library card. Employees interested in obtaining a library card should complete an application at the Library.
Uniforms
Many departments provide uniforms to employees, depending on the position, including Police, Fire, Public Works, Airport, Planning and Development Services and Parks and Recreation.
