Protective Services

Child Protective Services (CPS)

Investigates reports of abuse and neglect involving children. CPS works to ensure children’s safety, support families, and provide services that help keep children in safe, stable environments whenever possible. (800) 252-5400 or visit the CPS Website.

Adult Protective Services (APS)

Investigates reports of abuse, neglect (including self-neglect), and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults ages 65 and older, as well as adults with disabilities. Youth in foster care aged 5-17 may be placed with Connections through a caseworker.

NB Housing Partners is committed to addressing urgent housing crises and long-term affordable housing options. NB Housing Partners created the First Footing program on 2/1/2021. Perhaps most importantly, at First Footing, people who are struggling connect with people who care. *This resource primarily assists men, couples, and women if the Crisis Center is full. Krystal can assist with setting up Texas Health Steps and STAR+PLUS. These programs can help arrange transportation to medical appointments. Texas Health Steps provides free healthcare and related services for children from birth through age 20 who are covered by Medicaid. Regular checkups can help identify and prevent health issues and support overall wellbeing. STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid managed care program for adults with disabilities or adults age 65 and older. Members receive Medicaid healthcare, long-term services, and support through a health plan of their choice. Adults with complex medical needs can also receive services in a home setting instead of a nursing facility. For additional long-term care options, individuals can call 2-1-1 for assistance in finding available services. They can also visit an Aging and Disability Resource Center to get help locating and applying for programs for seniors and people with disabilities.

A managed care Medicaid program. Members choose a health plan and select a primary care doctor who serves as their main point of contact for Medicaid services. Each health plan also offers access to a broad network of specialists, therapists, clinics, and hospitals. *Children’s Medicaid Dental Services require all children and young adults age 20 and younger who receive Medicaid to select a dental plan. Families can choose from UnitedHealthcare Dental, MCNA Dental, or DentaQuest.

A Texas Medicaid managed care program for children and young adults age 20 and younger who have disabilities. Enrollment in STAR Kids is required for individuals who are age 20 or younger, receive Medicaid, and have Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or qualifying waiver services, including YES, MDCP, CLASS, TxHmL, DBMD, or HCS.

Texas Health Steps | (877)847-8377

A preventive health program for Medicaid recipients from birth through age 20. Outreach staff educate parents and caregivers about the preventive health benefits available to their children through Medicaid. These benefits include regular medical and dental checkups, assistance with scheduling appointments, transportation support, and Case Management services for Children and Pregnant Women.
