On today’s date, at approximately 10am, the New Braunfels Police Department was called to the intersection of FM 725 and East Klein Road for reports of a 3-vehicle major traffic accident. Officers arrived and found that a gray Dodge Durango had been involved in a minor rear-end accident with a black Ford F150 pickup truck. Following that minor collision, the male driver of the Durango attempted to flee by driving around the scene of the initial accident, crossed the center dividing line into oncoming traffic, and struck a blue Chevy Sonic on the front driver’s side of the vehicle.
The original minor accident resulted in no injuries, however, the near head-on collision resulted in the death of the female driver of the Sonic. That victim has since been identified as 41-year old Jennifer Cicha of New Braunfels and next of kin has been notified. The 61-year old driver of the Durango also suffered critical injuries in that collision and he was transported by ground EMS to Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels before being transferred by ground to SAMCC in San Antonio.
The circumstances surrounding the cause of these accidents remains under investigation to include possible criminal charges. As more details about the investigation become available, more updates will follow.
