On today’s date, at approximately 10:45am, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department were notified by San Marcos Police of a pursuit that had started in San Marcos and was making its way towards New Braunfels on FM 1101.
The pursuit reached speeds exceeding 100mph. As the pursuit entered the city limits of New Braunfels, the suspect (a 27-year old male from San Marcos driving a black Nissan pickup truck) disregarded the stop sign at FM 306/Creekside Crossing and collided with two vehicles (a silver Acura sedan and a silver Honda Odyssey minivan).
The collision caused the suspect’s pickup truck to rollover, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. He was later transported by Airlife to University Hospital in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the minivan (a 52-year old female from New Braunfels) along with three children inside the vehicle (ages 2, 2, and 4) all suffered injuries in the crash and were taken to nearby Resolute Hospital for treatment. One of the 2-year old children was later transported to University Hospital in San Antonio for more serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
The driver of the sedan (a 71-year old male from New Braunfels) was treated by EMS at the scene and released.
The case involving the original cause of the pursuit is being handled by the San Marcos Police Department. Meanwhile, the investigation into the crash by the New Braunfels Police Department Traffic Unit continues, and criminal charges will be filed at large against the driver for four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
