[ARCHIVED] FBI Crime Statistics Show Decrease in Crime in 2017

The FBI’s annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) for 2017 has been released, and the report shows decreases in Violent Crimes and Property Crimes in New Braunfels.  Law enforcement agencies across the nation gather data and submit monthly reports to the FBI showing the number of Violent Crimes and Property Crimes reported in their jurisdiction, and then the FBI compiles that data into an annual report that looks at national crime trends.  That annual report also allows local law enforcement agencies, like the New Braunfels Police Department, to see crime trends in their communities.

Violent Crime

In 2016, the UCR data showed that New Braunfels had a total of 207 violent crimes (which includes homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault).  In 2017, the UCR data showed that New Braunfels had a total of 193 violent crimes, which is a 6.7% decrease from 2016.

Property Crime

In 2016, the UCR Data showed that New Braunfels had a total of 1,721 property crimes (which includes burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson).  In 2017, the UCR data showed that New Braunfels had a total of 1,321 property crimes, which is a 23.2% decrease from 2016.

“This is good news for the residents of New Braunfels, and highlights the hard work of police officers in our city,” said New Braunfels Police Chief Tom Wibert.  “New Braunfels is unique, with a quickly increasing population, a major interstate running through the heart of the city, two rivers that draw thousands of visitors each year, and is situated between two major metropolitan areas.  To see crime trends decreasing is a testament to the dedication of our local officers and the vast majority of our community that want to live and work in a safe environment.”
