On today’s date (04-07-19), at approximately 1:30am, the New Braunfels Police Department was called to the 1200 block of Broadway for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers arrived to find an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department transported the victim to the San Antonio Military Medical Center (S.A.M.M.C.) by ground EMS. The man later succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital. He has since been identified as 37-year old George Gabriel Casillas of New Braunfels and next of kin has been notified.
Detectives with the New Braunfels Police Department Criminal Investigations Division were called to the scene and began their investigation into the cause of the shooting. The preliminary results of that investigation indicate that there had been an ongoing disturbance at the residence that ended when a second adult male fired multiple rounds from a .22-caliber rifle, striking the victim.
After gathering evidence and interviewing a number of people, NBPD detectives arrested 40-year old Samuel Ray Heard of New Braunfels. Heard was transported to the Comal County Jail and charged with Murder, a 1st degree felony. As of this release, bond had not yet been set. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no further details will be released at this time.
