Stormwater Management Strategy

Creation
June 2010, the issue of stormwater management in New Braunfels came to a painful reality with record rainfall and flooding damaging many parts of town. Following this event, the City of New Braunfels held a series of open public meetings to listen and respond to the concerns of citizens.

Building upon the energy and input from these meetings, the City of New Braunfels decided to move forward with a Stormwater Management Strategy that will be used to guide future projects, federally required permitting and updates to code using a comprehensive approach to stormwater management.

The Stormwater Management Strategy is guided by city staff, City Council and a Watershed Advisory Committee comprised of variety of individuals representing a range of interests in the community in relationship to stormwater.

Community Poll
A preliminary public input poll was conducted in the fall of 2011.  After collecting data from that poll, the top 12 strategies supported by that input have been identified. Existing conditions in New Braunfels regarding each of these strategies has been collected, a series of case studies, where each of these strategies have been implemented, has been reviewed and a set of potential implementation options has been identified for each strategy.

The public was asked to contribute to the continuing development of the plan by completing the revised survey featuring the top 12 strategies, maps for indicating where a particular strategy should focus, and a selection of preferred options for implementing of those strategies. The survey was available through April 2012.
