[ARCHIVED] City Council Approves Measures to Provide Greater Resident Access to Guadalupe River Parks

At their meeting on March 18, 2024, New Braunfels City Council gave final approval to two revised ordinances that are designed to increase parking for residents at popular City parks along the Guadalupe River.

 River Acres Park

City Council gave final approval to a revised ordinance that adds paid parking for non-residents on Fair Lane at River Acres Park along the Guadalupe River. The newly revised ordinance calls for a $20 charge for parking on weekends and holidays between May 1st and Labor Day each year for non-residents of New Braunfels. By implementing a paid parking system for non-residents, the City hopes to create more opportunities for New Braunfels residents to access the park. The funds that are generated by parking fees are placed in the River Activities Fund, which pays for the City’s continued costs for river operations including law enforcement, infrastructure, and cleanup. More than a dozen parallel parking spaces will be striped along Fair Lane at River Acres Park, along with a reserved zone for emergency response vehicles, all along the river-side of Fair Lane. There will be no parking allowed on the residential side. Similar to the paid parking at other river-access parks, the City will use ParkMobile to collect the parking fees.

 Cypress Bend Park

Additionally, New Braunfels City Council approved modifications to the existing shuttle zone at Cypress Bend Park, resulting in an increase of 25 public parking spaces. A portion of the existing shuttle zone will be restriped to allow for public parking while still maintaining a dedicated shuttle loading and unloading zone. The 10-minute public loading and unloading zone will remain available.

 Resident River Parking Passes

New Braunfels residents with a Resident River Parking Pass can park at a number of City parks for free, including River Acres Park, Elizabeth Avenue, Hinman Island Drive, and sections of East San Antonio Street and Mill Street. (Please note: All vehicles parking at Prince Solms Park must pay parking fees, regardless of resident status.) The Resident River Parking Pass is free and available at the Parks Administration Office (110 Golf Course Rd.) and Das Rec (345 Landa St.). Residents will need to bring proof of residency (driver’s license or photo ID with current utility bill) as well as proof of auto insurance. One sticker will be issued for each vehicle listed on the resident's auto insurance and each sticker is valid for three years.
